Biography


The Burns BJJ system was created in 2017 by Herbert Burns and Gilbert Burns. Both brothers received their black belts from Rafael "Fofitio" Barros and are decorated competitors in the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The oldest Burns brother Fred "Todo Duro" Burns is a Brazilian National Team BJJ Champion and a top competitive prospect in his blue and purple belt times. Nowadays he is a member of the most elite group in the Brazilian Marines, the GRUMEC equivalent to the U.S. Navy Seal.

The middle brother Gilbert "Durinho" Burns is a 2x NoGi BJJ World Champion, BJJ World Champion, Brazilian National BJJ Champion and holds many more international titles. Gilbert is a professional MMA fighter and competes under the UFC banner. The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the most prestigious MMA organization in the world. Gilbert is a UFC welterweight title challenger. Gilbert has promoted to black belt Jason Hunt, the cofounder of Meraki BJJ, and Mikey Musumeci, the first American to be a BJJ World Champion in two different weight classes as an adult black belt.

The youngest brother Herbert "The Blaze" Burns is a NoGi BJJ World Champion, 4x Brazilian National NoGi BJJ Champion, American National NoGi BJJ Champion, Pan Asian Absolute BJJ Champion and holds many more international titles. Herbert is also a professional MMA fighter and competes under the UFC banner. Herbert is a top prospect in the UFC featherweight division. Herbert Burns has many years of international teaching experience. Herbert was based in Singapore for several years and taught the students and the pro fighters of Evolve MMA for 3 years. These students and fighters include the likes of Shinya Aoki, Joe Warren, and Ben Askren. Herbert then took his skills to south Florida, USA to join his brother Gilbert.

Gilbert's wife Bruna Burns is a black belt under Cezar "Casquinha" GuimarĂ£es and is a Brazilian National BJJ Champion and an American National BJJ Champion. Bruna is the head coach of the Burns BJJ Kid's Program at Sanford MMA. Bruna has years of experience teaching children both in Brazil and in the USA.
